Facebook's Hide Feature - How to Hide Farmville and Posts You Do Not Want On Your Wall

If you have a Facebook page, every now and then something will show up on your wall that you really don't want there, whether it is someone trying to acquire or give away something on Farmville or Uncle Jake's four letter word rants. You certainly don't want to "unfriend" that person or relative because, well, they are your friend or relative and you love the ease of keeping up through facebook. You may have just scrolled down past all the game and app postings every day figuring it's just a downside of this Internet phenom. As for Uncle Jake, you love him for who he is, not his frequent four letter posts, but you really don't want the kids coloring at the next desk to sound out the words.
There is a way to keep in touch with everyone and keep your wall a little more clear. Facebook provides a Hide function on your wall. To find and use it, instead of just keeping your cursor on the scroll bar on the right side of the window as you read, let it rest on each entry briefly. You will see a little x on the right side of the post.
Hovering over the x brings a prompt to Remove. Left-click on the x - it won't remove the post. Clicking on the x brings up a box of options giving you the opportunity to hide a specific post, hide all posts, unlike page, mark as spam and, when appropriate, more options. Click on the option that you desire and you are done. That was easy!
Should you decide to use the Hide feature for a person, remember, that person's posts will no longer show up on your wall. If you really want to keep in touch, you will have to go to your friends list and click on the person's profile to see what is new in their corner of the world.
I have used the facebook's Hide feature many times, almost always for games and apps I don't want cluttering up my wall. Give it a try. I think you will find it makes navigating your wall a little easier.

More commentsThanks, Lorrie, for the Facebook tip. I just tried it, and it works. ~mogama~That's great, Mogama! I'm glad it was useful.
Recently, I got a lot of these games from a friend and I didn't have time to play them. I wondered how to stop it from coming. Now I know. Thanks.Ngozi, it is nice to have a Farmville free wall if you don't play Farmville. Thanks for commenting.
I will pass this on to some of my friends who have Facebook. :0)Thanks, James. I'm glad it was helpful!

Thanks very much for this interesting and helpful information. You are welcome, Walter. Thanks for reading and commenting.
HI Lorrie! Well as long as I've been using fb I had no idea that it provides a Hide function - although Im not a game player I can see how it can come in handy as sometimes a few posts come up that make me cringe but I still want to be nice... now, thanks to you, there's a solution! Thanks for the info and hope you are well!I am well, Judi, thanks. It is good to see you here! I've missed you. Anytime I see a "remove" option on the computer, I am afraid it will be something I can't undo. I think many don't click on the little remove icon for the same reason. Unfortunately, you don't see your options until you click it. I'm like you on the occasional word bomb, but, ya know, I love my friends and family and I figure I can handle it, most of the time. I use it mostly for the apps. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

20 fans. Follow Dr Jeannette Kavanagh on twitter!I do have a Facebook page which I review regularly - at least once a year: that being the amount of time I think Facebook deserves from my non-renewable time supply. I will reluctantly return to Facebook in a few days to test out your helpful advice. I still haven't worked out how to write discreet messages. Mine show up in public when they're meant to be private. Luckily, I don't follow Uncle Jake's use of vulgar language: well, not on Facebook.Hi Dr. Jeanette. Haha, you made me laugh at once a year. I do love that I can keep in touch with friends and relatives in just a few minutes a day. It is like a conference call on steroids! To send private messages, click on the person's name in your list of friends which will take you to their profile page. Towards the top left of the page there will be an option to "Send _______ a message". Click on that and you will have a window to type your message and that message will only go to the friend intended. I hope that helps! Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.
Thank you - this really helps!
Hi Lorrie. Thanks for the tips. I don't look at FB all that often and when I do, it just looks like a mess. Now I know how to clean it up.Hugs, Dianne
