Underdog Kris Allen Wins American Idol - Right Wing Christians Are the Reason?

If you are a fan of the TV Reality Show American Idol, you no doubt know by now that quiet Kris Allen, not the more flashy Adam Lambert won the 2009 title.  But, what you may not have heard yet is that if you voted for Kris, you are part of the Christian Right. Even more, one site brings race into it and says you are part of the white Christian Right.

How Kris won makes sense to me.  Danny Gokey was the more formidable opponent to Adam Lambert, but when he failed to garner enough votes with his less than stellar performance the week before to reach the top two, Kris was thrown to the lions...forgive the Biblically referenced pun.  No one would expect a shy, boy-next-door type to win against an outgoing, seasoned performer.  That's where the wrench is thrown in to Adam's expected win.  That Danny and Kris are more similar to each other than Adam brings Kris' win into perspective.  Gokey fans supported Kris.  That is all there is to it, simply a matter of preference.

Are Christians celebrating Kris's win?  Possibly, because Christians are supposed to be happy for a brother's success.  Was Kris' victory the result of a Christian Right conspiracy?  Get real.  Even if you choose to believe that, all it proves is that those who are not Christian Right weren't willing to stick with voting until the lines closed.  Since this American Idol finale is being compared to recent elections, and the political tone of our country, it is simply not plausible to suggest Kris has more fans than Adam.

If those in the population who believe this is a conspiracy had just followed through and stayed on their cell phones, maybe the results would have been different.  Then, you have to consider that  Adam fans were so sure of a win they didn't bother to vote.  And whose fault is that? For the record, I tried to vote about 5 times, then went to bed.

Consider this:  who is the more-rounded musician of the two finalists?  Adam sings - his range is the envy of most females.  And, he can act.  He has been singing and performing most of his life.  Kris sings, plays piano and guitar.  He has been singing most of his life.  Could it be that Kris won because of his talent?  Nah, this is America!  There has to be an agenda!

I've checked a few Websites today hoping to read more about Kris, now that he has won. Instead, I am seeing a bunch of people whining about poor Adam.  Poor Adam has a future in the industry.  Poor Adam is already a success. There are reports that Queen is looking for a new lead singer.  Poor Adam, indeed.

Eight seasons of American Idol; only three of the five winners were not white, and all eight winners were straight. Yes, there's a conspiracy going on, I tell you! Good grief. Next they'll be telling us there will never be a black President in the United States.

I thought right wing Christians were the minority? How could they be the reason Kris won? Seriously ridiculous. Thanks for this info, well told. So sad it's even a story.

Excellent job, missy :-)

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, Jay. I'm sorry for the slow response. I have no excuse...I just get behind or miss reading the notification email. I'm already looking for the next season to start!
