Wow! What a show! From the time you saw the judges, you knew the night was something special. Simon even wore a button down and a jacket.
The first song for each was a personal selection from this season. Kris performed last, his preference from a coin toss. Adam selected and sang "Mad World". Simon thought it was a bit theatrical. Kris sang "Ain't No Sunshine" and according to Simon - won round one.
Next, the songs performed were the show creator, Simon Fuller's choice. Adam sang "Change is Gonna Come", an R&B classic that Kara thought was Adam's best interpretation. Kris sang Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On". Simon and Randy thought it wasn't heavy enough, but Kara thought Kris was true to himself. Round two - Adam.
Last, both artists performed Kara DioGuardi's original composition called "No Boundaries". Adam did OK, but was a little pitchy. It wasn't his genre. Kris had some trouble with the key. I don't think that was his choosing, though. From the comments made, I believe both contestants had to sing identical arrangement. Let me know if I am wrong on this point. The judges were not asked who won round three and none of them really gave a stellar review. Simon did comment that Adam was the most original contestant this year.
Kris said he and Adam decided they were not competing tonight, but coming out to give a good show. They did that, but like it or not, they also competed.
America has four hours to vote tonight. At the end of that time, America will have its next American Idol. Who are you voting for? Who has the best chance to win? My support is behind Kris. He can sing, play piano and guitar. He is the best all around. Adam has Broadway in his favor. He can place himself in any situation and sing whatever his character demands. Both have careers in the music industry, just maybe different venues.
