American Idol Season 8 - April 29 Elimination Results - Matt Goes Home

Tonight's elimination show had a few unexpected moments, but in the end, it played out as most AI watchers figured.  The night started off with the final 5 singing It Don't Mean A Thing and I Got Rhythm. Natalie Cole, Taylor Hicks and Jamie Foxx each sang one of their current album cuts.

Danny and Allison each celebrated a birthday since the last show.  Of course Idol cameras were there for the celebration that turned into a massive cake fight.  I don't know who won, but a gag gift was presented to Danny on tonight's show...a $6,000 bill for the clean up costs.

On to the results.  Matt and Kris were directed to one side of the stage; Danny and Allison to the other.  Ryan asked Adam which group he thought he should be with.  Adam replied he should go with Danny and Allison.  Ryan sent him there, then sent him to Matt and Kris.  Adam was in the bottom three for the first time.  Unexpected.

Then one of the three was told he was safe:  Kris.  Unexpected. That left Adam and Matt in the bottom two; one of them would go home tonight.  I think it was a pretty safe bet that Adam would stay.  How did he end up with the second lowest number of votes? My guess is fewer voted for Adam figuring everyone else would.

So, Matt goes home for a few weeks before the Idol Tour.  He will probably get a record deal and at the very least be an opening act in Vegas or Branson.  He has a career in music, which is a pretty sweet deal when it's all said and done. Wouldn't you agree?

Adam is very good, but then, he is already a professional, so he ought to be good.  I think he and Danny will be the top two.  Thanks for reading and commenting!

Anon - How strange he was in the bottom two.  My daughter thinks it is because all the talk of him being so original, then his rendition of Feeling Good was a complete cover.  I think it is because people figured he didn't need the votes.  I think he or Danny will win.  Thanks for reading and commenting.
