American Idol Season 8 - April 15, 2009 - Elimination Results - The Judges Use Their Save on Matt

Tonight's Elimination show had a couple surprises. The first, that Lil did not snag the fewest votes. Lil has had a bad three weeks and is proving as hard to get rid of as Megan Joy. Her last three performances have not been good, and I think she knows it. The second, that the judges used their one-time-this-season save to keep Matt Giraud in the competition one more week. I hope they didn't make a mistake.

This week's mentor was, appropriately, Quentin Tarentino. The contestants were each required to sing a song from a movie. The mentor proved to be quite good at giving musical advice and most the contestants had better performances as they put his advice to use.

Jennifer Hudson and Miley Cyrus sang at tonight's live show, but were, quite frankly, outdone by the final seven's rendition of "Maniac" from Flashdance.

The bottom three tonight were Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds and Matt Giraud. I was surprised to see Anoop there and thought he did a great job singing "Everything I Do, I Do It For You". but, who else would it be this late in the competition? As it was, Anoop was sent back to the couch for one more week.

Back to the judges' save. That means next week 2 singers will be going home and if a front-runner like Adam or Danny or Allison has a bad night next Tuesday, they may not have a chance to fix it. OK, now you know who I think the top three will be in this competition. Next week I think Lil and either Matt or Anoop will be gone. Let's hope so, anyway!

Lil has got to go Lorrie, I watched this week, and the man to beat in the competition is Adam, I will be absolutely shocked if he isn't the next American Idol, my wife says he reminds her of a very young Elvis...(his looks), but she also agrees that he's the one to beat.....Great article and thanks for the update, keep up the good work! Are you writing about Dances with the Stars.....I like to watch that too......Your fan, and friend in pen......Gary

I agree with you Gary...it will be Adam.  His voice is crystal clear, but he can put some "fur" on it if needed.  And his range....wow!  I like Danny also and think he will be in the #2 spot.  Thanks for reading and commenting.
