The Election is Over - Ways to Recycle Your Candidate's Yard Sign

The '08 election is a thing of the past for most of the candidates in most states. So, what do you do with your candidate's yard sign? Most people will toss them into the trash. Some will save them as they will surely be collectors' items in the future. Ok, that is a stretch. Anyway, in my spare time I have come up with a few ways to recycle those signs and help your part of the world become more green.

Attach a piece of poster board to the sign and decorate will all the information of your next garage sale or gathering. You can change out the poster board and your trusty yard sign will be ready to advertise your next event.

Take off the ad board of the candidate's sign and grab your wire cutters. A few snips and you have some garden stakes.

The wire of the sign and your creativity can be combined to make a yard sculpture. Who knows, someone may discover your hidden talent and buy your sculpture. Just be careful the income doesn't increase your taxes!

Wire cutters, some solder and some paper mache ingredients can turn your useless yard sign into a great piata for your child's next birthday party.

The metal in the signs can be used as rebar for your next small DIY concrete project.

Remove the sign from the metal supports and place it under your vehicle to catch any drips. It will keep your garage floor looking new! The sign minus the metal supports can be used in any number of ways. Place it under paint cans to avoid messy clean ups.

There are countless ways to recycle your sign. Think of it this way: even if your choice lost, he or she will still be contributing to a new greener way of life! What will you do with your yard sign?

The easiest thing to do is to put it with all your other recyclables and take it to the recycle depot. I found this article humourous, yet with a message. There is no reason to throw them out. In fact, there is no reason to throw a lot of things out. My wife and I started taking things to our recycle depot many years ago. I would say that we now recycle about 99% of our garbage. For the garbage collectors, we now set out only two garbage bags a month. Even our garbage dump now recycles most of what we take there. Check out your local recycle depot. You would be amazed at what they take.

Thanks for reading and for your information, David.  I appreciate it.  I think I will hold on to my yard sign and someday place posterboard with garage sale information on it. Sorry I am so late in responding.

SPAD which stands for Simple Plastic Airplane Designs. Search for SPAD on Google for various websites like spadtothebone that show info on using corrugated plastic sign material for building radio control airplanes. Ask your local hobby shop if there are any R/C airplane clubs in your area that might want your used signs.
