So, What's Wrong With Christmas?

About a month ago I was helping with the Christmas decorations at my church. One of the decorations was a large recently assembled grapevine type wreath about 5 feet tall. My task was to pull off all the leaves that were still on the vines. An easy thing to do, a task I am well suited for since I don't have an artistic bone in my body. As I pulled leaves off I kept scratching and pricking my hands and arms. A small thing, but it still stung. As minds work in unpredictable ways, I found myself thinking about a smaller wreath, one that Jesus wore a couple thousand years ago. That wreath didn't just scratch and poke a little. It would have been painful as it was pushed onto his head. I thanked Jesus that he wore that crown and went through everything that happened after that crown for me. So, now I've come full circle in my thoughts, I'm thinking about Christmas again and all that it is.
Some say we shouldn't celebrate Christmas at all because the Bible doesn't tell us to. It is recorded in Genesis 40:20 of a birthday celebration for Egypt's Pharoah. You can be sure this was no small celebration, after all he was rich and had house staff. All through the Bible there are feasts, celebrations and remembrances. If a Pharoah's birthday is given such attention, how much more should we acknowledge the birthday of the King of all.
I do agree that the focus has turned from Christ's birth to a commercial brouhaha. My family is exchanging modest gifts and we have decorated our house indoors and out. We are celebrating! We are making a point to remember what Christmas is all about and the greatest gift ever given.
Whether it offends or not, the fact is this: Christmas is a religious celebration. This is America, a predominantly Christian nation, if in name only. So, it follows reason that we would celebrate Christian holidays. I have no problem with those who celebrate other religions' holidays. That is what makes our country great - that it is OK to worship who and how you want.
I have to wonder about those that complain about Christmas, but happily take their paid day off on December 25th. And I wonder if the disgruntled are even more agitated when they take their purchases to the cashier and find that because of Christmas sales their total bill is lower than it would have been a week or two before.
Don't be afraid to say "Merry Christmas". If someone doesn't want to celebrate, that is up to them. I dislike Halloween, (which, by the way, is a religious holiday) but I don't complain to everyone that sells or puts up Halloween decorations or says "Happy Halloween" to me. If you want to celebrate Christmas, go ahead! I can't think of many more worthwhile celebrations. If not, try being tolerant of the 80 some percent of people in this country that do.
Merry Christmas, everyone!

Top-level comments on this article: (4 total)Lorrie that was well thought. You've been watching the O'Reilly Factor haven't you? Not many other people use the word "bruhaha." =) Keep believing.I have been known to watch the No-Spin Zone on occasion. Thanks for reading the article.Yes, the Bible tells us the time of Pharoh's birthday. That is all well and good. But the Bible does not spacifically tell us when Jesus was born. There is a reason for this. God knew that man was going to celebrate the birth of Jesus, so He didn't add that into the Bible. Why not? Because man made it a pagan celebration, which it was from the start. It was started by the Catholics and continues to this day. Even the name Christmas came from the Roman Catholic church. The name WAS "Christ's mass" or the "Mass or Christ", but the so-called christians, wanting to have more people in their congragation, joined the Roman Catholic Church, or the people from the Roman Catholic Church joined the so-called Christian churches, bringing with them the TRADITIONS of men, namely, "The Mass of Christ", which is now called "Christmas". Dig deeper into the history of this pagan celebration and you will find that I am right. I have studied it for years and have come to the conclusion that celebrating the birth of Christ should and MUST be done 'EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK', Not just on a day the Catholic church decided it. And not with pagan items like cutting down a baby tree and decorate it with stuff just to lett it die. What is the purpose in cutting this tree down just to let it die? So your house would look and/or nice for a few days and/or weeks? What does this fat fart called Santa Clause have to do with Christmass anyway? NOTHING! The Bible clearly teaches us to stay away from magic and its users. So then why do we celebrate christmas with a fat fart who flys in a magic flying sled with flying raindeer, and this fat fart drops down into your house via chimney. Again, using magic. This is pure and simple satan's hand in trying to lure Christ fearng people into deception. "Magic is ok as long as it is used for good." BAH HUMBUG! Compare what Santa wears with what God wears when he comes back. Yes, the Bible tells us what God will be wearing when He comes back. I don't celebrate christmas because:
1. Santa goes Ho Ho. So does God. Read Zech. 2:6
2. Santa has hair white as wool. In Rev. God does to.
3. Santa is prayed to for gifts and stuff. So is God.
4. Santa wears a garment red as crimson. So will God.
There is more but I don't want to spend hours typing. Christmas is a pagan holiday and TRUE Christians, not fake or half way Christains must not celebrate it. Not just because Jesus wasn't born in Dec., but because it is not at all mensioned in the Bible. We are not to celebrate Jesus' birth on any given day, but EVERY DAY!! Not when the Catholics say. Christ must be in your heart and he must be celebrated every day, not just for a season. The "Reason for the Seaon" is Gifts and Santa aka Satan!
And as for Easter, what does it have to do with a Rabbitt laying eggs? Nothing. It has to do with the pagan goddess Ester. Study study study. The Bible tells us to study God's word to make us perfect.
Last, Christmas is pagan and true Christians must not celebrate it.Thanks for reading and commenting, Roy. Maybe you should write an article with your views here on Wrytestuff, or have you already?
This is the issue I have with so many that want the freedom of this country, What about what Christ says, what about what the Bible says? What about ll the peganism that is linked now to Jesus? How can you say you are a christian then follow this pagan custom?Whoa, Ms. Peace. Just because I don't do what you think I should isn't a reason to question my relationship with my God...but, no offense taken. I have a question for you. What about those who go to a Christmas celebration, hear the Gospel and realize that a Savior was born for them? What if God uses this time of year, even if the celebration was dated to line up with the time of a pagan celebration, to draw someone to Himself? Even if you disagree with it all, you can't deny some will come to know Jesus because God will use a Christmas celebration. So, I will keep on celebrating, with the emphasis on Jesus and a thanksgiving in my heart that he was born. If you believe I am so wrong, pray for me. Thanks for reading and commenting! You said, "What about those who go to a Christmas celebration, hear the Gospel and realize that a Savior was born for them?"
I ask you this. What about those who go to a Christian Rock Consert hear the Godpel and realize that a Savior died for them?
Same thing, right? WRONG! Are you a Christian, Catholic or Pagan worshiper? So-called Christian Rock is used by Satan to draw people to him THROUGH Christian lyrics. The music is the same, the words have been changed. Children are attracted to Christmas because of all the magic and this fat fart who is supposed to be able to give to good kids what they want. They pray to Santa, not Jesus. When they finaly grow up and realize that Santa doesn't really exist, and then you tell them about Jesus, they will automatically believe that, since Santa was a fake and you told them about him being real, then you are also lying about the reality of Jesus and His Holy Word! Thus, you turn your kids into atheists. They won't believe in Santa, Satan, Hell, Heaven or Jesus. Then what? They will look at you as being liers. I have seen this myself many many times in my neighbor's kids. Teach the children in the way they should go and they will not stray from it. Teach them about Santa and they will stray from it into Witch Craft, because Santa can do magic, why not me? Harry Potter can do magic. Why not me? Jesus taught us to stay away from all sorts of magic.
"What if God uses this time of year, even if the celebration was dated to line up with the time of a pagan celebration, to draw someone to Himself?"
God DOESN'T and ISN'T using it at ALL. It's a man made tradition and must be stopped be all TRUE Christians. Oh, I'm sorry! You believe in Santa, not Jesus. My mistake!!
"...you can't deny some will come to know Jesus because God will use a Christmas celebration."
If people come to know jesus because god will use Christmas, then it's the wrong jesus and a dead god. Real TRUE Christians to NOT celebrate the Mass of Christ. Study the words Mass of Christ. Find out what it really means. Go to a Cathoic Church and find out what it means. It has NOTHING whatsoever to do with Satan claws and magic People who are let to Jesus through Christmas are let to the wrong Jesus, and a taught pagan traditions. The Bible clearly says not to study the traditions of man. Christmas, therefor, is a tradition of man. It is wrong for true Christians to celebrate it.
"So, I will keep on celebrating, with the emphasis on Jesus and a thanksgiving in my heart that he was born."
So you will keep on celebrating, wht the emphasis on Santa (Satan) and a thanksgiving in your heart that he was created. I changed the words around because that IS what you're doing. Sorry. Thanks again, Roy, for reading and commenting. Seriously, have you considered writing articles on this? I can't agree with you, but that is the point of this site, to write and let others read.
God can and does use any method he desires to show himself. Do you really believe that someone who goes to a Christmas celebration where the Gospel is presented and makes a decision to give his life to Christ is an impossibility?
I need to ask...are you by chance Independent Fundamental Baptist? Just curious on that one.
Looking at music: are you aware that the music of many of the early hymns we sing were popular bar songs of the day with words rewritten to tell doctrine?
Great point, Lorrie. I never thought of Halloween as a religious holiday. And Merry Christmas to you!I didn't either for a long time. Once I did, it changed my viewpoint a lot. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Thanks for standing up for Christmas. Some people may feel offended by the term, but I find "Happy Holidays" or "Seasons Greetings" even more offensive, because these terms are often used so people can avoid saying "Merry Christmas".Thanks, David. I agree with you 100%. Thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate it. Welcome to SearchWarp!Well, Happy Holidays, (holy days) Seasons Greetings, whatever that means, and Merry Mass of Christ. You people can celebrate Jesus' birth only for a season once a year, but for me and my house, we will serve the Lord 24/7.
Good for you, Roy. I am with you on that...I do my best, with his help, to serve my Lord and Saviour every day he gives me breath. Thanks again for reading and commenting.
Lorrie as a fellow active Christian I ask you to consider what you are saying. It is good to be greatful to Jesus for giving his life, but the reindeer, and talking snowmen, the wreaths, the ornaments on a tree, focus on the along with all of the other pegan customs is flat out idolatry! This is not what Christ stood for. If you google what is wrong with Christmas many things are available to give some TRUE insight to the truth behind this hi-lie day instead of just emotions behind a man made custom.Hello again, Ms. Peace. I have considered what I am saying. My position hasn't changed. As far as practicing idolatry, I can only answer for myself. I do not put a tree or custom ahead of God and His Sacrifice. This time of year I am more aware of what I believe, Who I worship and how I respond than, say, March. Putting up a tree is not worshiping a tree. God knows my heart, my intentions and my actions. While I certainly am not perfect, He lets me know when I need to change something. So, again...if you believe I am so wrong, pray for me. Thanks for reading and commenting.Ms. Peace, you said it, and I must apologize for my forwardness of my words, but yes, I have studied, intencely, the traditions of men, on and off google, and have found that people have to believe in something. Why not believe the TRUTH!!! The Holy Bible! The ONLY TRUE word of God. We need nothing else. God bless!
