See You at the Pole?

On the fourth Wednesday of each September you will see students and teachers, lots of them, standing around their school's flagpole about 30 minutes before school starts. Is this a political statement? Well, yes, in a way it is. These kids are exercising a couple key rights - those of public assembly and religious freedom. They are history in the making and their prayers may be what turns this nation around.
What, exactly is it?
See You at the Pole started in the Texas town of Burleson in 1990 and has become a well attended nationwide event. See you at the pole is a vehicle for students and teachers to join together with about two million others at their respective flagpoles to pray for each other, their school, parents, family, teachers, community, their country and its leaders and anything else that they are led to bring up. The event is promoted by radio stations, churches and any other group that recognizes the difference prayer makes.
Friendships are forged as kids realize that their peers want their world to be a safer, friendlier place. The event is student-led and is not considered evangelism nor does it take away from classroom time. The school cannot promote See you at the Pole, but teachers can attend. This event has made a difference in the lives of many students and schools. It is pretty cool that so many students realize the importance of the event and make an effort to be there.
Parents, this is a great time to pray for your kids and school as well. When you tell your kids you are praying for them, watch and see the difference it makes.
This year the theme is "Gather - Unite - Pray - Come Together. It think it sounds like a pretty good way to get the school year going. Can you think of anyone better for the kids to turn to for help and guidance than the One who created them? What do you think?
